Following the submission of a project description statement by ICM to the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA), a decision was issued prescribing that the proposal requires an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) as per Schedule I, Category II, Section 13.0.2.1 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (S.L. 549.46). Moreover, the proposed development also qualifies for EIA screening and assessment under Regulation 10 (3). Therefore, the ERA has launched a public consultation in order to be able to formulate the terms of reference for the preparation of the EIA report.
ICM is also in the process of conducting a preliminary marine survey to be followed by a Front-End Engineering Design in order to gather the necessary information required during the EIA, for the design of the interconnector and for the planning permits both in Malta and Italy.
