Another important milestone has been achieved. All the geophysical activities related to the preliminary marine route survey have been completed by Fugro Italy Spa.
The preliminary marine route survey (PMRS) for the second Malta to Sicily electrical interconnector is now nearing its completion. Fugro Italy Spa’s scope was divided in three main portions, namely, nearshore Malta, offshore and nearshore Italy. The surveying vessels have now finalised the collection of the geophysical data in the offshore part and nearshore Malta and the environmental sampling offshore and nearshore Malta. Concurrently geotechnical samples are being collected to design the nearshore approach. This data will be analysed in the post survey assessments and the Front Engineering Design and the information collected will also serve as an input to the EIA experts contracted by ICM.
